XPELAIR PROVIDE BESPOKE VENTILATION SOLUTION FOR HILTON HOTELS

Xpelair Ventilation Solutions has been specified by Thermatic Engineering Ltd for two new Hilton group hotels based in Birmingham and Lincoln.

The company’s Customvent team for bespoke solutions worked in partnership with Thermatic to develop an energy efficient system, which would meet and exceed the ventilation requirements of each building. In total, 419 units have been installed to improve the indoor air quality of the hotel’s bedrooms and public areas.

When completed in May 2012, the Hampton by Hilton Birmingham, based on Broard Street, will comprise 285 rooms. The Lincoln hotel will include 115 rooms as part of the executive Doubletree by Hilton portfolio. Construction of the site began in June 2010 and was started by celebrity presenter Gethin Jones and opened to the public at the end of 2011.

Graham Egerton, National Projects Manager for Thematic Engineering, comments; “The structural limitations of the two hotels meant that a central ventilation system was not plausible, as there wasn’t enough space for the unit and its ducting. Therefore, we decided to install individual mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) units in all of the rooms, as it was the most effective approach. Xpelair’s bespoke units had the ability to exceed our client’s ventilation requirements.”

The hotel industry has seen a number of changes over the last few years including an emphasis on implementing ecological, energy saving systems throughout.

Steve Mongan, head of marketing at Xpelair, explains: “The bespoke systems were designed exceed the criteria required by Thermatic, offering easy to install and highly energy efficient ventilation solutions. Lightweight in construction, they can wall or loft mounted by one person using the fixing brackets provided. The energy efficient design also means they could save up to 278kg of carbon per year compared to traditional AC heat recovery systems.”

Developed for modern airtight buildings, the bespoke units are fully reversible so they can be handed to meet any ducting configuration, with front and rear access panels to give installers complete flexibility when positioning the units.

Other key benefits of this unit include a highly insulated structural foam body with four 125mm top entry spigot connections. They have a 90% energy efficient heat exchanger, EC ultra low energy multi-speed single inlet external rotor motors and long-life G4 filters.
