A report by the Wolverhampton Express & Star has seen global ventilation manufacturer Elta Group placed in the top 100 businesses in the Black Country region.
Using detailed research by the University of Wolverhampton, the report’s findings were based on turnover for the last business year, seeing Elta Group placed 41st with a turnover of over £81 million, an increase of over £11 million on the previous year.
The number one spot went to construction business Carillion PLC, with drugs wholesale company NG Ltd coming in at 100. The research also broke down the statistics by sector, with Elta achieving seventh in the ‘General Manufacturing’ sector.
The report made interesting reading, illustrating that the heavy engineering industry through which the region acquired its name has, not surprisingly, declined, although the food and retailing sector has been a growth area. However, it also highlights that manufacturing still has a prominent role to play in the region’s fortunes, generating investment and revenue, as well as employment for thousands.
Elta has strengthened its position in the last year, acquiring businesses as far afield as Australia, but, as Elta Group Vice Chairman David Ball comments, the company’s roots remain very much in the Black Country and its Head Office in Kingswinford. David said – “We have had a presence in the Black Country since the early 70’s with my fathers previous company ‘Air Movement Group’ operating from Peartree Lane, Dudley until it was sold in 1996 which led to the formation of the Elta Group. The Group remains family owned with future developments taking place that will create further jobs in the Black Country area to support the West Midlands regional economy. As the Group has developed, so has our role in other countries and we now have some 544 employees worldwide. Our Head Office in Kingswinford is still very much at the heart of the operation, and we look forward to continuing to develop our role in supplying innovative and high quality solutions to the building services industry.”
