Aluglaze composite panels from Panel Systems have been supplied to The Link, a flagship community building for young people, which is based under the Harrow Manor Way flyover in South Thamesmead, London.
Powder coated aluminium was specified in red, orange, yellow and green to provide a vibrant exterior to The Link that complemented the colour of the curtain walling. The Aluglaze panels included Styrofoam insulation, which achieved a U-value of 0.35 W/m2K, therefore offering a high level of thermal performance.
The panels were supplied to the contractors on behalf of Trust Thamesmead, the community development agency for Thamesmead.
Giulio Oliviero from architectural practice Saville Jones, said: “The curtain walling and panels were specified in four colours of the rainbow, as the building is designed to attract and appeal to young people. The building has a distinctive look, with different colours used for each of the arches to provide a bright, contemporary look.”
Danny Phelan, Sales Manager at Panel Systems, said: “Aluglaze panels are regularly installed for their aesthetics – as they were on this project, and the choice of colour was all important. These panels were produced to achieve the required thermal performance requirements to ensure that a high level of energy efficiency could be achieved.”
The Link is a £5.65m state-of-the-art community facility, which has been funded by a myplace grant to deliver world class places for young people to go. The building will offer activities aimed at young people, such as skills development, volunteering, performing arts, music recording, community gym and outdoor activities.
