Specifier Review

Sheffield-based architectural panel manufacturer Panel Systems has supplied Aluglaze insulated panels to a major supermarket retailer for a 633,500sq ft distribution centre on Kingsway Business Park in Rochdale.

Over 400 light grey Aluglaze panels were supplied to the glazing contractors.  Each panel was made with rigid Styrofoam insulation to achieve a U-Value of 1.0 W/m2K in order to enhance the thermal performance of the large distribution centre.

Danny Phelan, Sales Manager at Panel Systems, said: “Our aluminium architectural panels have been specified for a number of high profile projects recently, due to their superior aesthetics and performance.  They were ideal for this retail distribution centre where they provided a cost-effective cladding solution which will help to improve the energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of the building.”

Each Aluglaze panel from Panel Systems was manufactured from a face of 1.5mm aluminium sheet vacuum bonded to a Styrofoam core, creating an overall thickness of 28mm, which was fixed directly into the aluminium glazing system. The panels were finished with a 40 micron thickness powder coating in Merlin Grey.

Styrofoam was specified because of its excellent insulation properties, which will help the client to meet its targets for energy efficiency, as well as providing them with the peace of mind that their carbon footprint will be kept to a minimum.

Architectural panels such as Aluglaze from Panel Systems consist of three or more materials that are laminated in its factory to form a structurally insulated unit.  Each panel features a low density insulated core material and high density facing and balancing materials to ensure a rigid structural panel.  The panels are designed to span over large areas, which gives the specifier greater flexibility when considering the overall design.

Aluglaze from Panel Systems has been supplied to a wide variety of commercial, educational and healthcare environments and is renowned for its aesthetics and performance.

Panel Systems manufactures a full range of bespoke composite panels that are used to create aesthetically striking and thermally efficient buildings.
