Prince Charles given a Thermally Efficient welcome in Stoke

When HRH Prince Charles walked through the entrance to the Co-Operative Academy of Stoke-on-Trent in Tunstall it is unlikely he knew he was walking through one of the most thermally efficient commercial doors on the market, Jack Aluminium’s Jack Door TD68.

The Prince of Wales visited the academy to meet students taking part in the Prince’s Trust Industrial Cadets scheme, set up to promote careers in manufacturing. He spoke to students and staff during a tour of the impressive building.

Jack Aluminium’s high usage Jack Door TD68 was chosen for the £23M construction project by Duplus Architectural Systems, the glazing and curtain walling contractor for the development. Duplus Architectural Systems had previously installed Jack Door TD68 at neighbouring St Joseph’s College and chose the product again because of its ability to withstand the knocks and heavy handedness of a school environment as well as providing exceptional thermal performance.

Jack Door TD68 aluminium door and framing system can achieve a 1.7 U-value, making it one of the most thermally efficient commercial doors available. The door achieves excellent energy efficiency through innovative profile design and the inclusion of a thermally broken threshold. Designed as a high throughput door, it can take electric strike opening as standard and, as specified for the academy, an optional automatic door header bar making it ideal for frequent foot traffic or disabled access.

Peter Gregory, MD of Duplus Architectural Systems says: “In total we installed 20 of Jack Aluminium’s Jack Door TD68, including two pairs in the imposing glazed entrance. We chose Jack Door TD68 because it solved a number of the problems associated with high usage applications. As well as thermal efficiency, other benefits of the door like high security accreditation to PAS023 and PAS024 were also important. Another useful design feature is the curved finger guard to remove the danger of users trapping their fingers in the door. Jack Aluminium’s specialist cutting and painting service was extremely beneficial for this project as it enabled us to fabricate different door colours with minimum wastage.”

Jeff Pearson, Jack Aluminium’s sales director adds: “It was great to see HRH Prince Charles arrive at the academy. Jack Door is an ideal solution where high thermal efficiency is required for high usage entrances. I hope the Prince took notice of Jack Door’s thermal efficiency when he visited. Who knows, maybe he’ll choose Jack Door for Clarence House!”
