Big Foot Systems Receives Double Nomination in National ACR Awards

Sussex-based Big Foot Systems is delighted to announce that it has been shortlisted within two categories at this year’s prestigious National Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Awards. The firm is thrilled its new innovative High Bloc, designed for mounting air conditioning (ac) units on flat roofs, has been nominated in the Air Conditioning Product of the Year category. Meanwhile, the company is also celebrating reaching the final in the Best Commercial Project category with the Parliament House project, which features Big Foot’s non-penetrative rooftop building services supports.

The National ACR Awards 2014, will be held on 15th May 2014 at the Town Hall in Birmingham. With 2014 marking the second year of this prestigious industry awards, this year’s awards ceremony is set to be an entertaining and exciting evening with the night themed around the 1920s and all the glitz and glamour of that era.

We are delighted to have been shortlisted for two categories within this year’s prestigious National ACR Awards. Many in the air conditioning industry use traditional support solutions for rooftop ac installations unaware of the time, materials and labour savings our products can offer. We are therefore delighted to receive industry recognition for our innovative rooftop supports.” said Dan Rushton, UK Commercial Manager, Big Foot Systems.

The National ACR Awards celebrate and promote the innovations, achievements and excellence of teams, organisations and individuals within the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. The judging panel carries out the difficult task of selecting award winners by recognising the people and companies that have driven their products and services forward to help serve their customers to the highest standards.

As a result within the Air Conditioning Product of the Year category the High Bloc, an innovative support solution for mounting ac units on flat roofs, was selected for the final line up. The High Bloc is a simple but highly effective solution to increasing the height of VRF/ac installations which require greater roof clearance, safely spreading the plant load evenly across the roof.

The High Bloc ensures cost-effective roof-clearance for AC equipment in line with manufacturers’ instructions, thus helping to ensure the cooling systems work effectively. Meanwhile, the High Bloc also protects ac equipment from water ingress and the effects of frost/freezing action by raising the ac units above ponds of water that can occur on flat roofs.

Moulded from recycled rubber the High Bloc is UV stable, robust and features anti-vibration built in. The product is available in two sizes, the High Bloc 600 (L 600mm x W 180mm x H 120mm) and the High Bloc 1000 (L 1000mm x W 180mm x 120mm). The High Bloc is lightweight at 9.5kg and 15.8kg respectively. The design load for the High Bloc 600 is 224kg and for the High Bloc 1000 it is 295kg.

Meanwhile, in the Best Commercial Project category the judges selected Parliament House for its final shortlist. An impressive building in Adelaide city centre, Parliament House is a local landmark that houses the seat of Parliament of South Australia. However, when the flat roof of this much loved building failed, leaking water it was found that its existing supports for its AHUs were decaying and a quick solution needed to protect the building from further damage.

M&E Contractor, Westside Mechanical therefore asked roofing specialist HVAC Roof Supports to provide a solution to support the essential heavy roof mounted HVAC kit. To fix the problem HVAC Roof Supports supplied three Big Foot Systems non-penetrative support frames. Two frames measured 4.5m in length, providing point loadings of 10.5 kN/m² and one frame was 5.5m in length providing point loadings of 11.61 kN/m². The end result was successful with Westside Mechanical completing the job quickly with the AHUs operating again effectively. In addition, when the AHUs are renewed the same frames could be used for the new plant making Big Foot a cost effective solution.
