Construction remains the UK’s largest manufacturing sector, with the industry moving into a growth phase, stimulated by government infrastructure programmes. There is a need for Midlands based construction companies and their suppliers, to identify the opportunities ahead both on a regional and national level – the Midlands Construction Summit has set an objective to do just that.
The UK government have been working with the construction industry to develop a long-term vision – ‘Construction 2025’ – a joint strategy which sets out how industry and government will work together to put Britain at the forefront of global construction. The Midlands have world-class expertise in architecture, design and engineering and are leading the way in sustainable construction solutions. The sector has considerable growth opportunities within the global construction market which is forecast to grow by over 70% by 2025.
The Construction 2025 strategy is a substantial document and the Midlands Construction Summit is an opportunity for regional construction related businesses to gain an in-depth understanding, explore and harness the future opportunities presented in a joint industrial strategy.
Taking place on 27 November 2014, at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham – this conference and exhibition style event is presented by the Built Environment Hub, the Midlands body tasked with driving construction product and process innovation in the region.
The Midlands Construction Summit will guide and help the Midlands built environment sector define their route map for grasping the strategic opportunities in a lively and structured way, allowing for plenty of input from industry leaders and is your opportunity to hear directly from Peter Hansford, the Government’s Chief Construction Advisor.
Peter Hansford will discuss the government’s clear vision for 2025, of an industry that is; known for its talented and diverse workforce, efficient and technologically advanced, leads the world in low-carbon and green construction exports, drives growth across the entire economy and has a clear leadership from a Construction Leadership Council.
Following his keynote presentation, Peter Hansford will join the panel for an open Q & A session and this will present an excellent opportunity for delegates to pose questions directly to one of the leading contributors of the strategy document.
The conference programme will open with a presentation from Andrew Round, Assistant Director for Planning & Development at Birmingham City Council. Andrew, who is responsible for Planning & Regeneration in the City Centre and North Birmingham, will discuss the regional outlook for construction and pinpoint where the investment will be focused for both Construction 2025 and the Birmingham Development Plan 2031.
Other speakers include Mark Barrow, Partner at EC Harris, Joe Webb, Business Development Director at Thomas Vale Construction and Bouygues UK, Adam Frankling, Chairman of Black Country Constructing Excellence Club (BCCEC) and Vinci Facilities together with Oliver Novakovic, Technical and Innovation Director at Barratt Developments. The full speaker programme can be found online.
The afternoon sessions will be split into separate seminars: Offsite Construction; Energy Efficiency & Retrofit; Supply-chain & Development; Lean Construction & BIM; Public Sector & LEP; and Academia. Delegates will have the opportunity to engage with the forum chairs and guest speakers to establish valuable information, direct from a credible source, which could have a positive impact on their business in years to come.
The Summit will be chaired by David Bucknall OBE – Chairman of the Built Environment Hub – who will capture and feedback issues that arise on the day. A panel of industry leaders who operate across key construction disciplines including: supply chain, contractors, quantity surveyors, architects, end client and engineers will contribute views and opinions as well as the speakers and the assembled audience of over 300 delegates.
