Solid Wood Solutions – Showcasing the Best in Engineered Timber


Organisers of the Solid Wood Solutions conference and exhibition have today announced that the event will be held at the Inmarsat Conference Centre, London, on the 16 September 2015.

Solid Wood Solutions will showcase the very best in engineered timber by creating a platform for the industry’s pioneers to present some of the most prestigious projects from across the UK and Europe. As sustainability and offsite construction is high on the building agenda – this is the essential event to learn first-hand from the structural timber industry leaders and innovators.


‘Solid wood’ is defined as heavy structural timber elements made up by bonding timber lamellas together to form units with known structural characteristics. There are two main solid wood structural solutions – cross laminated timber (CLT) and glued laminated timber (GLT).

Cross laminated timber is a structural two-way spanning timber panel produced by laminating and finger jointing soft wood timber lamellas at 90° to the layer below. CLT panels can be produced with fire resistances of 30, 60 and 90 minutes and can be used to form walls, roof and floor panels as well as shear walls.


Glued laminated timber, also called glulam, is a type of structural timber product comprising a number of layers of dimensioned timber bonded together with durable, moisture-resistant structural adhesives. These structural members are used as vertical columns or horizontal beams, as well as curved, arched shapes.

The construction industry needs to develop better buildings at a rapid pace and solid wood structural systems provide the sustainable solution. Delivering speed strength and sustainability – timber is one of the fastest growing modern methods of construction and this event is designed to inspire through innovation.


At Solid Wood Solutions construction professionals will showcase ground-breaking projects which are truly unique and the first of a kind. From the tallest residential solid wood building in Europe – Banyan Wharf, which at 10 storeys clearly demonstrates the structural capacity of cross laminated timer to student accommodation in UEA Norwich – the first project to be fully BIM level 2 compliant.

The Solid Wood Solutions event will consist of a small exhibition of circa 25-30 companies from within the cross laminated timber and glulam technology sector plus complementary solutions such as SIPS and cladding/fenestration solutions with a conference of approximately 200 delegates.

It is the first time in the events five year history that it will be held in London and by moving Solid Wood Solutions to a London venue, organisers expect this to be a sell-out event.
