Esh Construction begins transport and connectivity improvements project across Barton-upon-Humber
The £5.1m scheme will strengthen connections between residential areas, the town centre and Barton railway station
Upgrades to key routes, crossings and junctions across Barton will soon get underway as Esh Construction begins delivery of a comprehensive transport improvement scheme on behalf of North Lincolnshire Council.
Esh’s civil engineering division will commence works in mid-September at Whitecross Street and Tofts Road, marking the first phase of a wider programme that will be delivered in stages across the town, allowing improvements to be progressed in a coordinated manner.
David Player, Construction Manager at Esh Construction, said:
“The scale of the project in Barton is quite massive really but will transform the town.
“Working with North Lincolnshire Council we are looking forward to starting on site with the first phase of works.
“We appreciate there will be some level of disruption for residents and businesses, but we will endeavour to minimise this as we progress through the project.”
In addition to highway improvements, the programme will deliver safer and more accessible walking and cycling infrastructure, enhancing connections between residential areas, schools, Barton railway station and the town centre.
A new Mobility Hub at Barton railway station will also be delivered, featuring upgraded paving, improved waiting facilities, covered cycle storage and enhanced amenities designed to support sustainable travel and improve the passenger experience.
Alongside the infrastructure improvements, Esh is committed to maximising social value opportunities throughout the project, with initiatives focused on employment, skills, education engagement and community investment.
Councillor Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:
“We’ve worked hard to secure the investment needed for Barton and it’s great to see the programme now moving into delivery. These improvements will strengthen connections across the town and support Barton for years to come.”
As works progress, residents and businesses will receive advance notification of activity in their area. A dedicated Barton Improvements Hub will also provide updates on project progress, upcoming works and key information throughout the programme.
