Bringing fossil-free steel products to the office and workplace sector is not only a huge milestone for Framery but also for the industry; emissions from building material and construction account for 11% of all emissions and office furniture is the biggest contributor to furniture waste globally.

For thousands of years, steel has been made using coal to remove oxygen from iron ore, emitting vast amounts of CO2 in the process. But now, SSAB is set to revolutionize the industry with HYBRIT® technology in their pilot plant, using hydrogen instead of coal in the ore reduction process, and emitting water instead of CO2.

Framery’s Smart Pods are already on average 30% less emission intensive than building a meeting room over a lifecycle, are 100% recyclable, and more durable; using fossilfree steel is the brand’s next big step towards building the world’s most sustainable pod.
